End of term report for each of Chelsea’s loanees

Thibaut Courtois is proof that the system can work.
But beyond Chelsea's No 1 there have been few examples where a player has made the leap to first-team football at Stamford Bridge via a successful loan move.

Roma have already triggered their option to sign Mohamed Salah while former loanees Romelu Lukaku and Kevin de Bruyne were sold for healthy profits but have since gone to prove their worth.

From first-team cast-offs via the club's own academy produce to those merely used as financial enterprises, Sportsmail runs the rule over all 34 of Chelsea's loanees this term and assesses their chances of breaking into the first-team squad in the next couple of seasons.

Lewis Baker

Following his time on loan at Sheffield Wednesday and Milton Keynes Dons, Luton-born Baker was given a chance to impress in Holland with Vitesse this season.

The 21-year-old, a two-footed creative midfielder, was an ever-present and scored five times in 31 Eredivisie games, while his team finished ninth from 18 teams.

Dominic Solanke

At just 18 years old, and already with three England U21 caps having played at every international level since U16, Solanke is one of the brightest young strikers in the country.

On August 4, 2015, Solanke joined Vitesse on a season-long loan to gain first team experience and he repaid the Dutch club with seven goals in 25 games, despite his tender age.

Isaiah Brown

Like Baker, versatile attacker Brown spent the season on loan at Vitesse.

The 19-year-old former West Bromwich Albion prospect, two years younger than team-mate Baker, made 22 appearances in the Eredivisie, scoring once, as he continues his development.

Nathan

Brazilian attacker Nathan was another player to join Chelsea's Dutch feeder club, Vitesse.

The 20-year-old midfielder played on 18 occasions in the Eredivisie, bagging two goals in the process.

The Blues had recruited Nathan from Atletico Paranaense for a fee believed to be in the region of £4.5million, on July 1 last year.

Danilo Pantic

On July 13, 2015 Pantic signed for Chelsea from Partizan Belgrade for a reported fee of £1.25 million, on a four-year deal, and was immediately loaned out to Vitesse.

The 19-year-old Serbian midfielder featured just six times in the Eredivisie, though, scoring no goals.

Chistian Atsu

Atsu signed for the Blues from Porto in September 2013 with much expected of him, yet ever since the move his club career has failed to kick on.

After spells at Vitesse Arnhem and Everton, the 42-capped Ghana international joined Premier League newcomers Bournemouth on loan at the start of the season, with Cherries chief executive Neill Blake calling the deal 'a huge coup.'

But after making just two League Cup appearances on the south coast, he was recalled by Chelsea on January 1, before moving to Malaga on loan where he scored twice in 11 La Liga appearances.

Chances of breaking into first-team squad in next couple of seasons – 3/10

Cristian Cuevas

Cuevas joined Chelsea from O'Higgins in July 2013 and is a Chile U20 international.

On August 10, 2015, Cuevas was sent on a season-long loan to Sint-Truiden along with Angban, and the left-sided player featured 28 times for the club in both the Belgian Pro-League and Belgian Division 1.

However, the Blues will not be happy with his conduct as the 21-year-old collected a whopping 13 bookings.

Chances of breaking into first-team squad in next couple of seasons – 1/10

Mataj Delac

Former Croatia U21 international goalkeeper Delac was sent to Sarajevo for a season last August – his eighth loan spell since joining the Blues in 2010.

Having finished the previous campaign with the Bosnians, he once again plied his trade at the Asim Ferhatovic Hase Stadium but kept goal just 12 times as his team came fourth in the 16-team Premier Liga.

Tomas Kalas

Czech Republic international Kalas once again spent the season on loan at Middlesbrough, after he headed to the Riverside to play during the second half of the previous campaign.

The defender, who recently turned 23, played 30 times in all competitions as part of Aitor Karanka's squad, as Boro were promoted to the Premier League.

Lucas Piazon

Chelsea's Young Player of the Year for 2011-2012 was sent to Championship outfit Reading for a season-long loan move on August 31, 2015.

Brazilian forward Piazon's time at the Madejski Stadium became his fourth loan spell away from the Blues, and the 22-year-old found the back of the net five times in 27 appearances in all competitions.

Marco van Ginkel

Dutch midfielder Van Ginkel spent the first half of the 2015-2016 season on loan at Premier League side Stoke City before switching to PSV Eindhoven in the Eredivisie, on February 1.

In 21 games in all competitions for Stoke, the 23-year-old failed to score, but his fortunes changed in Holland as he scored eight times in just 15 matches.

PSV were crowned champions of their league, while Stoke came ninth.

Chances of breaking into first-team squad in next couple of seasons – 6/10

Wallace

Brazilian full back Wallace enjoyed the second half of the season on loan in his homeland with Gremio after an unsuccessful spell at Carpi in Serie A during the first half of the campaign.

On July 22, 2015, Wallace joined the newly-promoted Italian side (who were eventually narrowly relegated) on a season-long loan but after just six league appearances that was not completed.

He then headed back to South America (Chelsea signed him from Fluminense) for an 18-month period and the 22-year-old has featured nine times for them so far.
