Alejandro Guido op proef bij Jong Vitesse/AGOVV
De Amerikaanse U-17 middenvelder Alejandro Guido is momenteel op proef bij Vitesse Arnhem, een topclub in opbouw in de Nederlandse Eredivisie. De jonge Amerikaan werd naast technische directeur van Vitesse Ted van Leeuwen gespot tijdens het met 4-0 gewonnen vriendschapelijke duel tegen Al Shabab zondag jl. De clubwebsite bevestigt de oefenstage, maar wil zich niet uitlaten over de lengte daarvan.
Guido was een belangrijke speler voor het Amerikaanse U-17 World Cup team, vorige maand. Hij scoorde het eerste doelpunt van het toernooi voor de US met een strak schot van prachtige afstand tegen Tsjechië (red.: video). Tijdens zijn twee jarige cyclus bij het Amerikaanse U17 programma had Guido de rol van aanvallende middenvelder.
Guido, wiens vader in de Cruz Azul Youth Academy speelde, groeide op in Tijuana (red.: Mexico) maar verhuide naar de US op zijn opleiding te vervolgen en om club voetbal te kunnen spelen voor de San Diego Azteken Futbol Club.
De 17-jarige is vaak geprezen voor zijn technische capaciteiten. Het was duidelijk dat hij meer in zijn mars had voor de toekomst, zo bleek tijdens de wereldkampioenschappen voetbal U17 in juni. In Nederland ligt de nadruk op tactische ontwikkeling, in tegenstelling tot het fysieke voetbal elders in de wereld. American teenager Alejandro Guido on trial with Vitesse Arnhem
U.S. U-17 midfielder Alejandro Guido is currently on trial with Vitesse Arnhem of the Dutch top flight, the Eredivise. The young American was spotted in the crowd with the club’s chief scout and technical director, Ted van Leeuwen, during the first team’s 4-0 friendly victory over Al Shabab on Sunday. The club’s website confirmed the trial but did not provide any details about length.
Guido was a key member of the U.S. U-17 World Cup team last month, scoring the first goal of the tournament for the side on a wonderful strike from distance against Czech Republic. During his two-year cycle with the American U17 program, Guido was the facilitator for the offense of Wilmer Cabrera’s team, filling the attacking midfield role.
Guido, whose father played in the Cruz Azul youth academy, grew up in Tijuana but crossed the border for school to play club soccer with San Diego Aztecs Futbol Club.
The 17-year-old has long been lauded for his technical abilities, but drifted out of games at times during the World Cup run for the Americans in June. The Dutch emphasis on tactical development, as opposed to the physical nature of other avenues, could provide the perfect opportunity for the young starlet to advance his career.
